If there’s an award being given out for prettiest serum on your dresser, I think the L’Occitane Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum will win hands down!

I mean, look at it!

The beautiful gradient colour on the luxe glass bottle packaging is both eye-catching and pleasing to the eye. I do have a little gripe that the tactile texture of the cap and pump do not feel as luxurious as the bottle looks, but it is one I will overlook. A little more attention to that detail for future iterations might be nice 🙂

But we all know that there’s little use in a skincare product looking good, if it does not function as well as it claims, so it’s time to see just what is it it claims to do, and if it does it as well as it looks.

L’Occitane has made a lightweight gel serum filled with golden bubbles of Immortelle essential oil. It looks just like little jelly bubbles in the bottle. Immortelle essential oil, derived from the flower of the same name, is a product now synonymous with L’Occitane.

L’Occitane has used these little golden flowers, sourced from the fields of Corsica in their products for years, and there’s even a whole range dedicated to this flower rich in antioxidants, and supporting and nourishing the skin. These golden bubbles (up to 3,000 of them in a bottle) provide daily defense against sensitivity, dullness and fatigue during the day.

Used at night, L’Occitane says that it will help your skin recover and reset itself overnight, so it is left glowing, rested and smooth in the morning.

It is a product you can use both in the day and in the night, to protect and repair. In 2021, L’Occitane has tweaked the formulation slightly, so it now boasts a 20% more concentrated formula to defend skin from environmental stress, and soothe skin.

Lightweight gel texture sinks into the skin

I wasn’t sure what an ‘oil-in-serum’ entailed, until I pumped it out in the palm of my hand. I then noticed that the serum is a light textured gel. As you pump out the product, the golden bubbles burst, infusing the gel with a golden hue.

I expected it to feel a little oily, but it isn’t. I wouldn’t have minded if it did, but I think others might. It must be said that I use facial oils liberally, so I’m no stranger to oils.

Instead, it feels just light a light serum, that quite literally sinks right into the skin. It is so light in fact, that I often have to pump up to 3 pumps of product, to be able to spread it over my face. L’Occitane recommends 1 pump so maybe I have a large face 😛 Either way, 2-3 pumps feels better for me.

Hydration boost and general rejuvenation

I’m in my late 40’s, and with it comes the usual battle for skin hydration and the pursuit of that ever elusive ‘glow’. While I don’t pursue it as zealously as others my age do, it is something I do notice when I have it, and when I don’t.

I didn’t for a while recently, due primarily to a certain amount of slacking in my skincare routine and increased exposure to the sun. When I started my L’Occitane Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum journey, it was with the intention to boost hydration to my skin, and to reduce dullness.

By way of disclosure, much of the dullness was addressed with regular use of Vitamin C serums (I was using this one from Cerave at the time). I had slacked before that, and going back to Vitamin C serums had helped my skin a lot. I was also slowly incorporating retinol serums back into my routine, albeit less regularly, due to my more regular sun exposure.

What I noticed after incorporating the L’Occitane Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum into my routine (primarily only at night) was a hydration boost. My skin was less dehydrated in the morning. I did a little test by applying some residual product on my very dry arms as well, and I also noticed a hydration boost there.

I think that the hydration in the gel-serum helps the oil absorb better and more easily into the skin, just like how it is when I mix body oil into lotions to boost moisture.

I also noticed that my skin was generally looking a little more rested and fresher.

It isn’t something I’d say gives you an overnight result. Perhaps, if you do not have a general serum in your routine, then you might notice an overall hydration boost, softening of the skin and a glow. For me, the result was a little more subtle. It took time, but it was there.

My skin felt and looked a little better as the weeks went by, and considering how much environmental stress I’m putting it through daily, it’s saying something! 🙂

For me ultimately, this is one of those products that I’m not sure what it does exactly, but it does it quite well haha! It helps a little with restoring suppleness and how my skin looks better overall. I’m still helping my skin recover from the few months of neglect, when I was just lazy and doing the bare minimum. So, this is a nice all-in-one sort of serum that I can slap on and feel nice about it.

I’d put it in the similar sort of category of all-in-one serums like the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair or Oskia Super 16 serum, or any anti-aging serum generally. If you’re in your 30’s and looking for a general sort of ‘anti-aging’ serum to start with, you could do worse than the L’Occitane Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum 🙂

If you’re in your 40’s and up, I wouldn’t expect a miracle 😛 LOL

IN A NUTSHELL

The L’Occitane Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum is aa nice, lightweight gel serum that is infused with bubbles of encapsulated immortelle essential oil. When pumped out, the oil bursts and mixes with the gel and delivers quickly into the skin without any greasy after-feel. With prolonged use, you can notice better hydration and more rested, healthier skin. Scent is light and it is easy to use, delivering a slow but steady result without building an elaborate skincare routine. Don’t expect an overnight miracle. It’s a decent product, but one that like most skincare products, works best when used over a prolonged period, and with expectations in check.

PROS:
Lightweight texture is very comfortable
Gives skin a hydration boost
With prolonged use, skin looks rested and healthy and feels less sensitive

CONS:
Pricey
Results can be too subtle for many to appreciate

It’s a bit of a slow burn for me. A product I don’t mind using from time to time, in between my more active skincare products. After all, some times, even out skin could do with a less activity haha! 😀
